Day 22 Civitavecchia, Italy

Today we docked in Civitavecchia 45 minutes from Roma. We decided to hang out in the port city instead of going all the way into Roma. As it’s Saturday, there was a market with fish, fruit, vegetables and just about anything you could want to buy. This city also has a statue, which cried blood, putting it onto the map. We spent a nice day wandering around, drinking wine and eating pizza. In the afternoon we found a place on the way back to the boat that serves melons. So we stopped and shared a ¼ of a watermelon. They bring the entire ¼ to you with a knife and fork! It was a great way to have lunch. There were also 3 Italian men who were having a very lively discussion about the price of watermelons. At least that’s what we thought they were talking about! We also stopped into a McDonalds to give it a try, and I ordered deep fried cheese wedges! Then it was back to the ship, the walk was quite long and hot so we had a nice rest before heading to dinner and setting sail to Florence!
